Saavn is currently seeking an experienced attorney to join the in-house legal team to play a crucial legal and business affairs role for Saavn’s India operations.  A successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the evolving needs of a fast-paced and high growth business, bringing pragmatic solutions, best practices and strategies for managing legal risks. We are looking for a talented attorney with initiative and drive who can effectively partner with business teams and handle a high volume of varied and complex legal work in the media, music and technology sectors. This is the lead role will require you to play the lead legal role for Saavn’s India operations and as such, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to offer legal advice clearly and effectively to a diverse audience is essential.  This position reports directly to our VP, General Counsel – Legal &. Business Affairs.


  • Regular communication with key business stakeholders to help identify and address legal issues associated with technology, digital product, digital content, integrated marketing, and programming across the Saavn platform.
  • Structure, effectively negotiate and oversee the execution of wide spectrum of media and music agreements including content licensing, distribution, recording, music publishing, partnership agreements, service agreements, ad-sales, promotional agreements, consultant and vendor agreements.
  • Oversight of company-wide compliance with Companies Act, and applicable FEMA, RBI, tax, labor and local regulations.
  • Work closely with Saavn’s content strategy groups to assess risks associated with evolving content acquisition strategies and the licensing/clearance of related rights
  • Oversight of Saavn’s IPR including registration, protection and enforcement.
  • Oversee and supervise all work sent to outside counsel.
  • Support the Legal and Business Affairs group with ongoing work streams including compliance, process improvement, template development and the use of technology to increase efficiencies.
  • The educating, implementation, and enforcement of best practices and compliance requirements amongst all Saavn employees as part of the Legal and Business Affairs on-going effort to create a Company-wide “culture of risk awareness and compliance”.


  • L.L.B with strong academic performance.
  • Admitted to practice in India. 
  • 10-15 years of experience in a law firm or corporate legal department, preferably in the media/entertainment/digital sectors. Previous in-house experience is a plus!
  • Thorough knowledge of Indian intellectual property, entertainment and media laws.
  • Experience in and knowledge of music industry is viewed favorably but not necessary. 
  • Excellent drafting skills.
  • The ability to analyze complex legal problems quickly and concisely without supervision. 
  • Exceptionally strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to tailor communication styles to diverse audiences
